Hello and welcome to the bit that tells you all about me, what I do and what inspires me to do it….
My name’s Lexie Bay and I’m an erotic writer. I also dabble in poetry and I’m an avid reader and you can find my poems and book reviews on this site alongside my blog and the occasional free story.
I’m currently living on the South Coast of England with my gorgeous husband and two beautiful daughters and I work most days in the accounts department of an insurance company, writing my stories in the evenings and weekends.
I think I first started writing to create a fantasy world where I could control what happened. I didn’t have much luck with romance as a teenager; getting dumped by my first almost boyfriend, a drummer in a local band, for refusing to go with him into the bedroom at a party. Looking back, maybe I should have been a bit more adventurous, he was gorgeous… think Billy Duffy from The Cult, all dirty blonde hair, faded denim, black leather and white lace basque (sigh). I sat by the phone for well over a week waiting for him to call me again.
So writing became my way of escaping into another world where the phone always rang and the heroine always went into the bedroom… in fact she was usually the one dragging the hot guy in there. I loved (and still do) the feeling of creating a new place with new people and living out your fantasies on paper. My earlier stories were always romantic, but featured a lot of sex and some of them are hilarious – completely unintentionally!
I didn’t think about writing erotica properly until I read some (OK a lot!) of the Supernatural slash fiction online. Those of you that follow me on Facebook and Twitter will know that I’m mildly obsessed with the show! But it got me thinking about what I was doing with my stories, so I did some research and realised that there was actually a market for my kind of writing, that there were other writers out there doing the same thing. That was a turning point for me and it was then that I decided to try and get my stories out into the world.
My first opportunity came after chatting to the wonderful Lucy Felthouse on Facebook. She said she was putting together an anthology about Uniforms and would I be submitting. I did, and incredibly I was lucky enough to have my two stories picked to be published. I have to admit that when I got that email from Lucy to say that I was in, I cried. It was completely overwhelming to know that someone else out there thought that my stories were hot too. It was a huge confidence boost for me!
Since then I’ve chatted to so many people in the erotic community, and what amazes me is the overwhelming support you get from everyone. People are always willing to give you tips and feedback and everyone I’ve spoken to has been so wonderfully friendly.
So what are my influences……? Well my writing and, amusingly, most of my life is hugely influenced by the wonderfully cheesy songs of soft rock. Think Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi, Heart and all those other lovely American anthems. Yes, I have to confess that I love my leather and lace, biker boots, tight denim, florescent Lycra, long messy hair and the raw emotion that you get in those songs. I wish all men were like that and a lot of my characters have an element of it in them.
I get a lot of my ideas from things that have actually happened to me or people I know, but some of it comes from the murky depths of my imagination! I try to make my stories hot and kinky but with a hint of romance thrown in amongst the smut for good measure.
